Additional information
Yirgacheffe, located in Ethiopia’s southern region, is famous for producing some of the world’s finest coffee. The area’s high altitudes, which can reach over 2600 meters above sea level, create ideal conditions for coffee cultivation. At these elevations, coffee beans tend to be smaller but are known for their intense flavor. Although even it can be expensive to produce here. Yirgacheffe has always been sold at a premium in the Ethiopian coffee Exchange. The coffee farms in Yirgacheffe are small, typically between 1 to 2 hectares, and are operated organically.
Farmers grow coffee alongside other crops such as mangoes, papayas, and African plums, using natural irrigation methods. Locals are called the Gedeo people they are known for their hardworking nature and vibrant culture, predominantly follow a vegan lifestyle, relying on agriculture for their livelihood. They wear traditional blue attire and celebrate their biggest festival, Darraro, marking the end of the coffee harvest and the Gedeo New Year.
